Foraging for Fireworks fun...

All the bright lights and loud sounds of bonfire night are enough to send any animal in to a spin.
The stress and fright of the night, especially for small animals that live outside, is enough to effect sleep patterns, diets and behaviour for the few days that follow.
To stop your guinea pig getting the jitters or your bunny going hopping mad follow these few useful hints and tips from Nick Thomas, the Pet Health and Care Expert at Supreme Petfoods and resident expert on the www.smallanimaladvice.com website.

Safe as houses

Moving hutches inside for a few days over the bonfire night weekend tones down the noise and saves pets from undue stress.
Find a quiet dimly lit place to move the animal and hutch to. Remember to keep the surroundings as familiar as possible.

Ease of play
Giving your pet toys and a treat will help to keep them occupied and put them at ease while the fireworks fly outside. A wide selection of pet toys and treats are available from suppliers such as Supreme Petfoods.

Comfort eating
Make sure your animals have plenty of food and water over the duration of the evening. The first signs of stress can be changes in eating so monitor your pet’s food and water intake. There is a wide range of food available mixed for the individual diet requirements of each species of small animal. For picky pets, Science Selective for Rabbits and Guinea Pigs contains all the goodness they need in each biscuit.

Cosy cuddles
Extra care and attention will help if your pet seems restless and stressed.
Gently stroking your pets will calm and soothe their nerves.
