Small Animals are presenting more frequently at Veterinary Surgeries. The numbers and popularity of these pets is increasing, indeed the rabbit is now the third most popular pet in the UK. Once seen as children’s pets, their potential as companion animals is being realised, and they are now being kept by young and old alike. Those traditionally kept outside are now being brought indoors where they are becoming a more integral part of the family and affording the same level of pampering as dogs and cats. Veterinary care is no exception. Signs of illness are seen earlier and owners are more prepared to have their sick Small Animal examined, and sooner. More frequently vets are faced with the challenge of treating sick Small Animals, previously the animal may have died without treatment.
