| WHAT DO FERRETS EAT? |
|
Ferrets are carnivores so they require lots of protein in their diet, and this means that they will cost a little more to feed than a rabbit or guinea pig. Ferrets digest their food very quickly so they need small, frequent meals with a high level of protein and fat. What to feed your ferret ? Use a good quality, heavy, earthenware food bowl or a bowl that can be attaced to the side of the cage to keep the food dry and clean, and prevent the ferret from tipping the food on to the floor of the cage. Their bowls must be cleaned after every use and stale food thrown away. Providing your pet with a complete mix such as Frankie Ferret will provide all the nutrition he requires and the use of a Frankie Ferret Feeding Ball will provide stimulation, variety, excercise and interest. FRANKIE FERRET FOOD FRANKIE FERRET FOOD is a complete diet specially formulated for ferrets. It is an extruded mix which includes 37% Chicken meal, soy, turkey meal and potato protein. This corn free fomula uses two flavors (chicken and turkey) to make it more intersting and the dual shaped crunchy biscuits help control the tartar which naturally builds up on his teeth. Using a Frankie Ferret Feeding Ball will prolong your pets feeding time and encourage him to play. TREATS Treats are so called because thats just what they should be a treat. If fed correctly they are not detrimental to a ferret and your pet will love them. However, treats are designed to be an extremely small element of the animals diet, and overfeeding may lead to health problems such as obesity, dental problems, diarrhea and heart disease. Specially prepared treats will provide a tasty surprise for your pet. Supreme Petfoods make several treats that are suitable for ferets. They make a great compliment to the regular diet and ferrets just love them. Depending on the size of your pet you can give one or two treats per day. You will need to be careful though as ferrets will have a favorite hiding place where they will hoard food. You will need to find this and remove any food that is stale. Also it will make sure that he doesnt over-indulge in his favorite Treat! NEVER GIVE YOUR FERRET ANY DAIRY PRODUCTS AND AVOID ITEMS WITH TOO MUCH SUGAR OR FIBER. Frankie Ferret Straw-nilla Treats Ferrets really love these Treats that have been specially made to stimulate their taste buds. They are highly palatable with vanilla and stawberry flavors your ferret will love with out the dairy and sugar found in other treats. Reggie Cheese & Cracker Treats
Your ferret will love these crunchy snacks which are bursting with cheesy flavor but with out the dairy that can cause digestive upset.
Some natural treats you can provide for your ferret are bits of boiled chicken, cooked eggs and, in limited quantities, some dried fruits. Go on spoil your Ferret (but not TOO much!). Changing your ferrets diet If you are not currently feeding FRANKIE FERRET food but would like to try it, you must introduce it gradually into your ferrets diet. Mix about one quarter of the new food with three quarters of the old food on the first day and then gradually increase the new food and decrease the old food over a 10-day period. This should make sure that your ferret has no tummy upsets. Ensure there is fresh drinking water available at all times. Drinking Bottle
The best way to provide fresh drinking water is to use a gravity-fed water bottle attached to the front of the cage. Use one of the large ballpoint bottles to prevent dripping and ensure a constant supply is available. Water bowls are not suitable as they are easily tipped over and can get contaminated.
